Young organic and fair trade activists from all over the world have founded Young Organics, a new global action network. First actions speak for themselves: by creating urban gardens and contributing at international conferences Young Organics aims at connecting young minds, hands and hearts of the organic and fair trade movement. A workshop at the 64th United Nations DPI NGO Conference in Bonn, on September 4th 2011 highlights the first actions of young organics.

What happens if a bunch of young and active people from an organic and fair trade background meet? They will inspire each other, share their visions and get down to work. They will set up urban gardens and plots in their home town to be the change they want to see. They will harvest and cook their own vegetables, conduct workshops at international conferences and connect with selected sustainable companies. Eventually they create, foster and grow a new global action network called Young Organics based in Bonn, Germany.
This dynamic platform is not a dream. It exists. It started in a room at BioFach 2011, the international organic trade fair in Nuremberg. It is fueled by all young and active people who want to act now for a sustainable world.

Besides promoting projects like urban gardens on a local scale, Young Organics want to bring a young voice into the global arena at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in June 2012. Supported by world food prize laureate Hans Herren and several NGOs, Young Organics therefore prepares a workshop on “Youth and Young practitioner’s engagement in Sustainable Food Production”. The Workshop happens at the 64th UN/DPI NGO Conference in Bonn on September 4th, 2011. This is the most important conference for NGOs in preparation for RIO+20 and the results of the Young Organics workshop will be integrated into the final outcome document of the conference.
