How it started

  • February 2011, BioFach fair, Nuremberg

A few young entrepreneurs initiated a Workshop supported by IFOAM. About 100 young professionals from across the international organic and fair trade movement met. They shared and discussed their vision of joining forces across organizations and across the organic, fair trade and sustainability movements.

  • April 2011, Bonn, IFOAM premises

First Meeting in Bonn focused on Urban Farming and how to bring back farming into daily urban life and promote that it can be fun. We also discussed future strategies in agriculture and whether organic is a premium product or the only option to provide food for people.

Twenty participants from Brazil, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy and Turkey, living and working in Germany, Holland and Switzerland attended the meeting.

Together we went outside and created two urban gardens in Bonn. It was now that we decided to found a Young Organics NGO (e.V.).

  • June 2011, Bonn, IFOAM premises

At the second Young Organics meeting we focused on strategic issues. We worked on our vision and mission, defined next steps and actions and prepared the legal registration of Young Organics as an e.V. (Registered Association in Germany)

Harvesting and cooking the veggies from our garden at “Gut Ostler” made us feel that Young Organics has now really started!
